ALLENSTOWN STUDENTS EXCEED STATE’S ACHIEVEMENT EXPECTATIONS

ALLENSTOWN, NH (March 1, 2018) — Allenstown Elementary School (AES) was recently
notified by the NH Department of Education that it has surpassed, by a significant margin, the
two threshold requirements to be removed from the list of statewide Focus schools.
According to the NH Department of Education website, Focus schools have “the largest
achievement gaps between subpopulations (students with disabilities, English language learners,
and economically disadvantaged students)” and are among the 10 percent of the most struggling
Title I schools in the state as averaged over a three year period. Exiting Focus school status is a
significant accomplishment and means the school’s statewide assessment scores are no longer
among the lowest 10% and the achievement gap between students living in poverty and those
who are not was reduced by over 50%. As a matter of significance, AES’ students from poverty
actually outperformed the state’s “all students” population.
The tremendous gains made by Allenstown students are a result of the efforts of the entire
Allenstown community. Administration, teachers, staff and countless community members and
organizations have all shared their time and expertise with students with the mission of
